McDowell Holdings (formerly known as McDowell India Spirits) is essentially a financing/investment company having strategic investments in other companies, which were / are engaged in the business of Property Development & Exports, Manufacture and Sale of Beer, Chemicals & Fertilizers, etc. The profitability of the Company is linked to the performance of the investee companies which declare dividend based on their performance as well as fluctuations in the quotations on the Stock Market. In terms of Composite Scheme of Arrangement, Sanctioned by the High Court of Karnataka, the investment business of McDowell & Company (since renamed as United Spirits), was demerged into the Company, with effect from April 01, 2005. As an integral part of the Scheme, the name of the Company was changed to McDowell Holdings, with effect from October 17, 2006.
